Wii Birthday!

My oldest turned 12 today!

We had such a fun time with his friends!

We live in a wonderful area with such a great community!

I'm so thrilled that he has a great group of friends!

For his birthday we had his best buddies over to go sledding and play video games!

It was a good day!

I made a cake to look like wii remotes and it came out pretty good so I thought I'd share how I did it!

I baked two cakes one an 9x13 pan and one a 9in round pan.

I also made some GF cupcakes for our buddies who can't have gluten.
So they wouldn't feel left out I made little mini wii motes out of fondant as a cupcake topper!

I cut the 9x13 pan right down the middle so that I had two long rectangles.

The round pan was a little more tricky.

I looked at the nunchucks and tried to copy the shape using the curve that the cake already has.

I cut the shape out of cardboard and covered it with foil to give the cake support and allow me to move them easily.

The next step it to frost them.

This is just the crumb coat so it doesn't have to look pretty
it just needs to coat the cake!

Now it's time to roll out the fondant.

Fondant is like clay.
You need to work it with your hands for a bit to soften it before it is workable.

Sprinkle your work area with powdered sugar.

Roll it out just like you would pie  crust or playdoh!

Once it is the right size

drape it over your cake

and smooth it with your hands.

Use your fingers pull it down over the corners.

Pat the sides down.

Use a knife to push in and under the cake and then cut and pull the extra off.

Repeat with the other cakes!

Use a wet paper towel to smooth the surface and make them look shiny!

Now is the FUN part!

Adding the details!

First I mapped out where I wanted the buttons to end up.

To make the round buttons I rolled a ball and then smooshed it!

I added the little details as well the A, -,+, 1,2...

To make the cross I cut a square and then cut out the corners!

The cord is just like making a snake with playdoh!

I just left one end a little bigger to look like the plug.

Use water as "glue" just dip your finger in the water and then dab where you will be adding your detail.

There you go!

I hope you give it a try it was a lot of fun to make!

Laundry My Nemesis is Defeated

The girl's room has always been a problem for me!
I had just one hamper in there but the clothes filled it so fast I was never able to keep up with it.
Three girls in one room = a lot of dirty clothes in one room.
I have finally found a system that works for me so I'm sharing with you.
Hopefully it helps someone out there who has a similar issue!

Here is what I bought:

I then used Fabric markers to make each bag their own!

It has eliminated sorting girls clothes from my laundry list!
Once a girl's bin is full we dump it in the wash and it comes out presorted! Yay!!

It fits perfectly in their closet!

Even my almost three year old knows which one is hers and puts her dirty clothes in it!
They love it and so do I!
No more dirty clothes on the floor!! Yay!!

Do you want to build a snowman??

Here is what you will need!

Plus a marker...I forgot to get the marker in the shot.

Here is where you can find FOAM BALLS.

If you need craft sticks you can of course also find them on Amazon!

First impale your snowman on the craft stick.

You can use any craft sticks these are just what I had on hand!

"Oh look! I've been impaled."

If you stick a piece of playdoh on your work surface your snowman will stand up!

Then comes the fun part of decorating him!

I cut a piece of an orange craft stick to make the nose.

Collect a couple sticks (if you have little boys -check their pockets then you don't have to go outside)

Cut a piece of felt to make the scarf...yes I know Olaf didn't have a scarf but our snowman does!

Use that marker I spoke of earlier, but didn't photograph, to make the eyes, mouth, and buttons!

 Happy Snowman making!!!
