Elsa pumpkin carving 101

PUMPKINS!!

I love carving pumpkins!!

My lil bitty wanted Elsa...like every other little girl in America so I figured it would be a good one to use for this. :)

Here is how we do it!

First I wash the pumpkin to get as much dirt off as possible!

Then I (or the kiddos) carve out the top to access the guts!

You need to make sure you have your knife at an angle
so the when you replace it, it doesn't fall in!

good

bad

Next part is slimy and gross, but you got to do what you got to do...

It is a good idea to scrape the insides till they are smooth
and none of the slime is left!

Here are the tools I like to use!

Finally the FUN part!!

You can draw right on the pumpkin

or you can draw or print of a pic and then tape that to the pumpkin.

Poke holes along the lines where you need to carve.

Use small scrapes to connect the dots.

The further down you scrape the more light will shine through.

Soak your pumpkin overnight in a Rubbermaid bin/tub
with bleach and water!!

Repeat if your pumpkin starts to wilt!

I'll post more pics tomorrow of the pumpkins the big kids carved!

All Saint's day costumes!!

A friend asked me if I posted any saint costume ideas...
I said well no, I only really have the one post ;)
So I thought I'd put one together!!

Here you go!! Saints from years past!
St. Joseph, Mother Mary, and Jesus

Sts. William, Cecelia, and Michael
For the bishop's hat I glued the cloth to cardboard and for the crook I used a wooden dowel and foil painted gold! Underneath he is wearing a black turtleneck with a piece of tape!
When St. Cecelia was Martyred they tried to chop off her head three times!

St. Francis, St. Patrick, St. Rose
I can't seem to find the pic but there was a year we had Padre Pio (same brown robe w/some gloves), St. Therese (same outfit just added black scapular and roses to hold), and St. George- knight costume with a dragon puppet!

Sts. Maria Goretti, Denis, Cutie pie, Francis Xavier, and Lucy
I bought a headless horseman costume and used the robe as a pattern for the tan robe and then just added the red. It looked Awesome and he was the "talk of town!"

Little "Maria" had a blue robe with a pink vale "just like the picture" add some lilies for purity and ferns for martyrdom.

Francis Xavier- lots of black material....

I bought her Roman robe off of Amazon
add some fake eyes and you have St. Lucy!

This year the kids chose:
 St. Philip Neri
 St. Elizabeth of Hungary
 St. Ignatius of Loyola
 St. Brigid
  St. Isabelle of France
Pics to come!!

Cute little bunny craft

I love arts and crafts and party planning! I hoping to share my ideas with you to hopefully inspire and allow you to copy what I have done with your own families! I'm new at blogging so bear with me as I learn the ropes!

I love spur of the moment crafts!

This week my 5 year old daughter came to me with some yarn and asked how to make a bunny....
This is what I did with her and what you need to make one too!

Here's her cute little bunny!!

This is what you need:
Card stock- I used folders since we have a ton
pink construction paper- you could also use felt
yarn
glue- I love Tacky Glue!! It works WAY better than school glue!
I like to put the glue in a cup and have them "paint" it where they want it...works well for little people and you don't end up with big globs of glue that take days to dry!
Last but not least...A googly eye!

There you go!
Most stuff you probably have on hand but if not, you can find these thing at Michaels or Amazon...I love Amazon and Michaels!

All Righty!

Now that you have your stuff...Cut a bunny like shape out of the cardstock!

That wasn't so hard was it ;)

Now cut a bunch of little pieces of yarn
Give them to your kiddo with the cup of glue and a paint brush
 let them have at it!

"Big" kids can do that themselves.

When they are done gluing the yarn, have them glue the eye, and cut a piece of pink for the ear

Voila! You have a cute little bunny!!

I hope you like my cute little bunny craft and if you do feel free to share!!
Please come back,I promise to post some more fun craft ideas soon!
